Let the Adventures Begin

The last few months have been full of delightful adventures as the twins are major movers & itching to try new things each & every day. And while the rain of the last few weeks has stalled our outdoor plans, we are finding new ways to accommodate their need for discovery with fort building, drawing & somersault contests across the living room.

Lucy is just a beautiful little spirit & has become the easier child as of late... which I can't believe I am saying! She is a hugs & kisses type of girl who will lay with you for hours if you tickle, cuddle & kiss her. She listens to direction well, is very vocal saying words like "uh oh" when she needs help. She still absolutely loves reading & is very into pulling apart any drawer she can open with the goal of putting it all back together (and sometimes in nicer order). Just the other day she noticed a milk spill on one of our chairs -- that she had caused an hour earlier -- and just stared at it in wonder & said under her little breath "who di dat?". And the girl who at first hated outdoors, parks, dirtiness is slowly becoming the queen bee of the playground. Just the other afternoon she mastered the art of the slide & went in circles around the other kids as she climbed up five stairs on her own & launched off the slide with no fear -- thank goodness her competitiveness is showing through!

Hunter is unstoppable. He wakes up at 7am & before eating, drinking or breathing runs to the front door & bangs on it hoping I will let him out. I try very patiently to explain to him that no one is outside & that we can't go play, but he just seems to bang louder. His new favorite thing is to crawl up anything he can make his way onto, including shelves, tables, chairs. I can't tell you the number of times a day I say "No...Hunter" as I watch him shake his head no with a little smirk on his face & repeat the same behavior dozens of time before tiring. And while he is quite adventurous, he is also very sweet, compassionate & loving. A few weeks back, while he & I sat reading on the couch, Lucy screamed out for attention as she couldn't get her horsey out from underneath a chair. She screamed for help several times in her Lucy way, while I gently told her to keep trying & that I was busy. And while I didn't think Hunter knew what was going on, he got up in the middle of the book we were reading & pulled her horsey out for her to get on. Lucy of course just grunted & hopped on to start riding without even thinking of giving her little brother a thank you or smile of appreciation.

And while anyone who spends more than thirty seconds of time with me thanks their god they never had twins, I do have to say one of the joys of my life is watching them learn, grow & bond with each other. I can't imagine how bored Hunter would be without Lucy's constant screams OR how spoiled Lucy would be without realizing that she isn't the only "baby" in the world -- even if she does think that Hunter is her little pet & not on equal playing ground. My absolutely favorite new behavior of theirs is watching them kiss all things they love, including each other. Which melts my heart each & every time. See photo proof below.
