Fall Has Arrived

Both the twins are now walking, talking & dancing up a storm. And with all the growth their personalities continue to evolve into such interesting little characters.

Hunter, the once "easiest baby on this planet earth", is now showing signs of all things boy -- including getting into every little corner of our house, climbing up as high as possible on anything he can make his way on top of & attempting to destroy/take apart anything that is in front of him -- usually with this mouth.

I have this reoccurring dream about the little Hunts where he is left alone in the wilderness with nothing but his diaper on. Throughout the night these animals -- like wolves, bears, you get the picture -- come & try to snack on them. But as soon as they get close, Hunts just grabs one of their limbs & starts gnawing on it until he has eaten the entire animal. I have NO IDEA what the dream means, but I have an uncomfortable feeling it has something to do with my limited knowledge of the male species. You see -- you can't flirt your way out of a crying, hungry baby boy -- one actually requires parenting skills to come into play at some point.

Lucy is still as sweet & determined as ever -- she quietly reads in the corner of the room for hours a day, with the most sweetest voice says things like "momma", "dadda", "baby", "banana", loves to dance to music & will stop herself in the middle of a walk to shake her body -- which is seriously the cutest thing you will ever see. See video below.

But on the other hand, she is quite sure that every toy is for her, everyone around her has shown up to see her (this includes public places) & that her mother does not have any other children OR responsibilities besides caring for her every need. She has taken to throwing fits where she literally throws herself on the ground screaming at the top of her lungs until she is given what she wants -- her scream sounds something like "I want what WANT & I want it NOW". I definitely have a lot to learn but one thing Miss Lucy is going to have to realize is that there is only one boss in the family & unfortunately it is not her. To-date, my success at this would rate me close to a D-.

Life has slowed down as Fall has set in, which is really beautiful in it's own little way. I have major fitness goals for 2014 including more yoga, more running & excelling at shorter distances like 5K's & 10K's -- along with my obsession with CrossFit. Although I feel far away from my pre-pregnancy body, I can say that I enjoy a handful of great workouts each week including track night, Saturday long run, Vinyasa yoga & my fair share of WODs. Which makes for a very happy girl (and mom)!!!

Hello Little One

Well, it's official -- they are now a year & no longer my tiny, quiet, perfectly angelic little bunnies. A year also marks the time when I can no longer say things like "I'm still losing my baby weight because -- you see -- I have twin infants" OR "Are you sure you can't give me a discount -- I have twin infants at home" or my personal fave "Oh, you've never heard of twin skin?". This past month has been quite bittersweet as I really am enjoying them growing, changing, evolving into little people but also feel this sense of sadness that I will most likely never have a tiny, little baby again.

Lucy is developing into a challenging, spirited little girl who knows EXACTLY what she wants. She has started to take a few steps, loves to be entertained, loves to read & will join in on any conversation -- be it at church, in the middle of a store or while I am on the phone. She tends to wake up each day at 2am in the morning to practice her speech, something that aggravates Hunter to no end. I've had the inclination that taping it might be useful one day but somehow can't get myself out of bed at such an ungodly hour.

Hunter is the rough & tumbling type. Uses words like "ACK" to express his emotions & loves all things physical. One day when he grows to hit 6' & tells me he made the cut for a defensive back on his high school football team I am going to look back at this little online bloggish/diary & be proud that a 5'5" 120 lbs girl gave birth to such a BIG boy. (Height & weight may not be entirely accurate)

Almost a Year

The Fall rain has set in, just in time for all the memories to start flooding back from this same time last year. I remember being HUGELY pregnant, so freaked out about having twins & just trying to hold my cool as I went through the biggest event of my life. Fast forward to today & I just can't believe how fortunate I am.

As many of you know, as soon as you get pregnant, you get an out poor of advice from parents. And from what I was told I was seriously frightened by all the issues I may run into -- from time in the NICU to healing from delivery to reflux to sleep habits to first cold to tandem feeding... I could go on forever but you get the point.

While this last year has been anything but easy (did I mention tandem feeding??) I can say that I have two wonderful, full of life, healthy, consistently happy children. And while some make fun of our "scheduled" lives I truly can say that it has been a rare occasion that the twins cry for more than a momentary ouch OR become cranky for lack of food/sleep. Both are superb sleepers -- 3-4 hours of naps a day & 12 hours of solid sleep a night 99% of the time. Both love food & have been introduced to nearly every item in our pantry minus honey & nuts. But more than all of these little successes, both are developing into these interesting little characters full of light, laughter & happiness.

Lucy is extremely vocal, loves being entertained, never lets anything pass her by & has a wicked sense of humor. Hunts is the most even-keeled child I have ever met, goes weeks (no joke) without crying, enjoys anything/everything cars (his favorite moment all week is seeing the garbage man) & is quickly learning to defend his territory against his sister who can crawl quicker than him, hold on harder than him & has no issue pushing him down into any sharp corner she can find.

Although our sunny, fun-filled Summer has come to an end, I just can't wait to see what this Fall & Winter have in store for us. Below, as always, are a few highlights from this past month:
